High School & College…
Joining the PDR Swim Team (featured in Pride) at the “late” age of 11 taught Tyree the importance of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Chubby and barely able to swim all four strokes on day one, Tyree quickly caught up to his peers. Seven years later… A member of the 257th Graduating Class of Central High School in Philadelphia, PA, and an Honorary Bachelor Degree recipient, Tyree accepted an athletic scholarship to Towson University.
While swimming at Towson, Tyree held two leadership roles on campus; Resident Assistant, and President of the Lambda Zeta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. While majoring in Electronic Business, he began an internship at SGE Web Development, Inc. in Baltimore, Maryland. Tyree graduated from Towson Univ. in December 2005.
In addition to knowledge gained in the classroom, he has logged hands-on experience in graphic design, Web & Application Development since 2003. His web projects include Front and Back End Layout Design and developing & implementing Custom Web Content Management Systems.
Living in China
Seven months after graduation from Towson University, Tyree accepted an English teaching position at the Shanghai Finance University, in Shanghai, China. During his off hours, he learned Mandarin, traveled to over 13 cities, and even did some modeling and DJ’ing. Blogs, videos, and photos from his year in China will be reposted soon.
Back in the US…
Working with a Baltimore, Maryland non-profit organization, and subsequently, Baltimore City Community College; Tyree found himself back in the classroom. Under his instruction, over 40 students have received their Maryland State High School Diploma.
Tyree moved out of the classroom, but still within academia. He went across town and became the Academic Program Manager for the East Asian Studies Program at Johns Hopkins University. It was the chance to help start and grow two study abroad programs in China that took him somewhere he never thought he’d be again; a college campus. He was responsible for marketing, recruiting, pre-departure, and post-arrival orientation programs. Enrollment in the two China programs tripled during his tenure due to successful marketing campaigns.
Tyree continues in the web and application development field as a freelancer, and has completed projects for such clients as Maryland Public Television, Morgan State University, local community organizations and numerous small businesses nationwide.
